Job Description

The Department of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a senior academic appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level in large animal Medicine and Surgery. The successful candidate will contribute strategically to the development of a modern veterinary clinical education ecosystem and play a leading role in establishing large-animal clinical services, experimental training platforms, and translational research programs. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape a growing clinical teaching facility and strengthen regional leadership in equine and camel health, welfare, and performance medicine within the UAE and the wider GCC. The appointee is expected to provide leadership in clinical training, curriculum innovation, research excellence, and stakeholder engagement, while supporting the College’s accreditation and quality assurance objectives.

Teaching
Deliver high-quality lectures, practical sessions, and clinical instruction in large animal medicine and surgery. Employ innovative teaching strategies to ensure an engaging, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.

Establishment of Clinical Teaching Facility
Lead and contribute to the establishment of a veterinary clinical teaching facility with a strong emphasis on large animal clinical services. This includes planning, designing, and implementing clinical infrastructure at the Al Foah University Farm, ensuring alignment with international standards for veterinary education and large-animal clinical practice.

Development of Clinical Skills Laboratory
Collaborate in the development of a comprehensive clinical skills laboratory focused on large animal procedures, enabling students to gain hands-on experience in diagnostic, medical, surgical, and anaesthetic techniques relevant to these species.

Curriculum Development
Actively participate in the development and continuous enhancement of the clinical veterinary curriculum, with emphasis on large animal medicine and surgery. Ensure curriculum content reflects current advances and best practices in large-animal veterinary medicine.

Research
Engage in scholarly research in large animal medicine and surgery, collaborating with colleagues within and outside the department. Establish and maintain a productive research program leading to peer-reviewed publications and external funding.

Student Mentorship
Provide academic and professional mentorship to veterinary students, including supervision of senior projects, internships, and career guidance, particularly in large animal practice.

Community Engagement
Participate actively in outreach activities, continuing education programs, and professional services related to large animal health. Build and strengthen partnerships with farms, racing stables, camel breeders, veterinary clinics, and relevant governmental and private stakeholders.

Administrative Duties
Undertake departmental and college administrative responsibilities as assigned, including committee service, student advising, and contributions to the academic mission of the department.

Clinical Service
Maintain active involvement in the provision of professional large animal veterinary services, supporting the farming community and collaborating with local and regional veterinary practitioners.

Minimum Qualification

  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Veterinary Medicine and/or Veterinary Surgery, with specialization relevant to large animal medicine and surgery.
  • Board certification (or board-eligible status with completion within 1–2 years of appointment) from a recognized veterinary specialty entity is required to support specialist-led clinical services, accreditation readiness, and high-quality experiential training.
  • Extensive academic experience teaching large animal medicine and surgery.
  • Active clinical research profile with publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a developing clinical teaching environment.

Preferred Qualification

  • Veterinary professional licensure or authorization to practice veterinary medicine from European or other internationally accredited jurisdictions.
  • Clinical experience in endoscopic diagnostic, in large animal practice.
  • Clinical experience in evidence-informed complementary and alternative veterinary medicine relevant to large animal practice.

Expected Skills

Clinical Coordinator
Serve as a clinical coordinator with primary responsibility for large animal clinical training. This includes coordinating Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with internal and external large animal veterinary hospitals, farms, and referral centres, and overseeing veterinary student internships and clinical rotations in collaboration with local and regional clinicians.
