Associate Lecturer (Criminology)
About This Opportunity
The School of Social Science at The University of Queensland is seeking two teaching-focused Associate Lecturers in Criminology to contribute to undergraduate teaching in Semester 1, 2026.
- Position 1: CRIM3039 Advanced Criminological Theory (0.41 FTE)
- Position 2: CRIM2000 Youth and Deviance (0.36 FTE)
In these roles, you will deliver high-quality teaching within the Criminology program and actively engage in the collegial life of the School as a UQ citizen. These appointments are well-suited to academics with an emerging teaching profile and a commitment to innovative, student-centred learning.
Due to the short-term, teaching-intensive nature of this Brisbane-based role, applicants will be required to work on campus at the St Lucia campus for the duration of the appointment.
Key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
- Teaching: Develop and deliver courses, engage in curriculum design, coordinate courses, assess students, provide academic counselling, and adhere to university teaching rules.
- Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.
- Other: Comply with University policies and legislative requirements, including the Code of Conduct, WHS obligations, sustainability practices, ESOS requirements, and UQ strategic frameworks.

About You
- Completion or near completion of a PhD in Criminology.
- Demonstrated disciplinary knowledge in a relevant field of Criminology.
- Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at undergraduate and postgraduate levels using active and flexible approaches, including online delivery.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in teaching teams.
- Capability to use online learning systems and platforms (e.g. Blackboard and electronic course profiles).
- You must maintain unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Employer-sponsored work rights are not available for this appointment.
