The Associate Lecturer in Industrial Design (Education Focused) will contribute to teaching and learning across the undergraduate and Honours years of the Bachelor of Design (Industrial Design) program. The role has a strong focus on studio-based learning across all year levels, as well as industrial design communication, materials and manufacturing. Working closely with the Discipline Director and the Industrial Design teaching team, the appointee will deliver excellent teaching, contribute to innovative learning experiences, and undertake an Education Focused Project that advances learning and teaching within the discipline.
This role reports to the Discipline Director, Industrial Design and does not have any direct reports
Responsibilities Summary:
- Demonstrate a clear teaching philosophy that supports and inspires student learning.
- Plan, deliver and assess studio, lecture and tutorial teaching, designing learning activities and resources that develop creativity, technical skills, critical thinking and reflective practice, with guidance from senior colleagues.
- Manage course administration and contribute to academic quality assurance, including course convening or coordination as required.
- Integrate contemporary and emerging topics, including sustainability, societal impact, digital fabrication and new technologies, into teaching practice.
- Provide student support through consultation, feedback and mentoring at both individual and cohort levels to support learning progression and employability outcomes.
- Contribute to curriculum review, continuous improvement, and Education Focussed initiatives aligned with Faculty and University priorities.
- Maintain ongoing professional development in disciplinary expertise and pedagogy, including inclusive teaching practices, universal design for learning and educational technologies.
- Undertake an Education Focused Project in consultation with the Discipline Director to advance learning and teaching within Industrial Design or the broader Faculty.
- Participate in the Education Focused Community of Practice and engage with professional bodies, industry partners and community stakeholders to strengthen the relevance and visibility of Industrial Design education.

Skills and Experience Summary:
- A Master’s degree in Industrial Design and/or relevant professional experience.
- Demonstrated capability and passion for industrial design studio teaching, including related areas such as design communication, materials and manufacturing.
- Understanding of contemporary industrial design practice, including sustainable and circular design approaches, materials and manufacturing knowledge, societal impact, and digital and physical prototyping methods.
- Evidence of effective, student centred teaching, including the design of inclusive, evidence informed learning activities and assessments, and the ability to provide constructive feedback that supports student progression.
- A strong commitment to work-integrated learning, including the use of industry-informed design briefs, real-world problem contexts, and authentic professional practices in studio teaching.
