Associate Lecturer

About the opportunity

The University of Sydney Medical School is the largest provider of vocational medical education in Australasia and is at the forefront of online learning for clinicians. The Master of Medicine (Critical Care) was established in 2015 and has a significant enrolment of students and alumni. There are a broad range of study areas available including the basic sciences. You will be supported by a cohort of leading clinicians, academics and medical educators from retrieval and emergency medicine, anesthetics, and intensive care medicine. The Associate Lecturer will assist in the development of learning materials and assessment items, contribute to unit of study teaching activities (mainly online with on-campus workshops in some units). This includes facilitating and moderating online discussion forums and webinars, monitoring student progress and providing feedback and remediation where needed, as well as marking assignments and examination papers. You will contribute to ongoing quality improvement and educational research activity in relation to the Critical Care program.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • undertake teaching in the discipline of critical care medicine, and apply scholarly activity to inform teaching and learning practice in the Master of Medicine (Critical Care Medicine) program
  • engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences which meet the University's expectations and standards
  • suggest, implement, and evaluate improvements and innovations in teaching and learning, where appropriate, under the guidance of more senior academic staff
  • develop an understanding of best practice in teaching and learning within the discipline including engagement with relevant scholarly literature.

About you

  • T2 or T3 trainee in the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine FACEM registrar training program
  • are a medical graduate (MD, MB BS or equivalent), and eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • experience in conducting original research and/or engaging in scholarly activity
  • experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in team teaching and teaching in a variety of settings
  • demonstrated understanding of the subject-matter within the discipline
  • a developing knowledge and understanding of the key issues in the higher education sector.

This is a part-time position at 0.5 FTE for 6 months which is equivalent to 2.5 days per week, and work hours are flexible.
