Associate or Full Professor in History of Emotions
As part of the 2026 Canada Excellence Research Chairs (CERC) Program competition, the Department of History at Université de Montréal is recruiting a professor at the rank of Associate or Full Professor to advance research and teaching in the history of emotions. This position is contingent on the candidate's success in obtaining a CERC chair.
The CERC program provides up to $500,000 per year for eight years. The successful candidate will collaborate on the application, due in March 2026.
Day-to-day responsibilities: Through teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, and research activities, you will contribute to the faculty’s excellence. As a professor and CERC holder, you will:
- Leverage leadership in the history of emotions, aligning with Canada’s science priorities for social and economic benefits.
- Foster co-creation of research projects with partners from academic, public, private, and non-profit sectors.
- Apply for infrastructure funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI).
- Teach at all levels, supervise students, lead interfaculty projects, and participate in departmental activities.
- Strengthen ties to the community through public talks and publications.
Qualifications:
- Eligibility for the CERC Program and the 2026 competition.
- PhD in history.
- Outstanding expertise and international recognition in history of emotions, history of senses, and neuro-history.
- Strong leadership in international networks and ability to lead research teams.
- Ability to conduct research with social and economic benefits, provide interdisciplinary teaching, and work collaboratively.
- Proficiency in French or commitment to learn it per Université de Montréal’s language policy.
