Associate or Full Professor of Psychology & Director of Undergraduate Programs
Job Description
The University of Rhode Island Department of Psychology seeks a tenured professor to serve as Director of Undergraduate Programs, starting Spring 2026. The ideal candidate is a dynamic scholar-educator with expertise in educational research, innovative teaching methods, and strong administrative skills.
This role involves leading undergraduate programming for one of URI's largest majors, with approximately 1,100 students in BA and BS programs. The position emphasizes student engagement in research and experiential learning, curriculum development, and creating inclusive educational experiences for diverse students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead undergraduate program: Collaborate with College and Department leadership to plan, develop, and evaluate curriculum; coordinate course staffing.
- Conduct educationally relevant psychology research and scholarship.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in your area of expertise.
- Mentor students: Supervise undergraduate research and provide professional development.
- Participate in department, college, and university committees.
- Promote diversity: Support equity and inclusion in all activities.
Required Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in Psychology or related field.
- Qualified for Associate or Full Professor rank.
- A track record of educationally relevant research/scholarship.
- Demonstrated strong undergraduate teaching record.
- Demonstrated leadership experience with undergraduate programs.
- Demonstrated commitment to student mentoring and DEI principles.
- Demonstrated excellence in oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated excellence in written communication skills.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
