About UM6P:
Located at the heart of the future Green City of Benguerir, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), a higher education institution with an international standard, is established to serve Morocco and the African continent. Its vision is honed around research and innovation at the service of education and development. This unique nascent university, with its state-of-the-art campus and infrastructure, has woven a sound academic and research network, and its recruitment process is seeking…
high-quality academics and professionals to boost its quality-oriented research environment in the metropolitan area of Marrakech.
About ARC_AIR – African Research Center on Air Quality and Climate:
The African Research Center on Air Quality and Climate (ARC_AIR) is a research unit within UM6P dedicated to advancing scientific understanding and innovative solutions in the fields of air quality, atmospheric chemistry, and climate. ARC_AIR’s mission is to support sustainable development in Africa through high-impact research, capacity building, and technology transfer. The center brings together a multidisciplinary team of researchers, engineers, and students working on addressing environmental challenges such as industrial emissions, urban pollution, and climate change impacts. ARC_AIR also collaborates closely with national and international partners to strengthen Africa’s contribution to global atmospheric science and to develop tools and strategies that guide evidence-based policymaking.
Research:
The selected candidate will conduct research within the UM6P African Research Centre on Air Quality and Climate (College of Chemical Sciences and Engineering). Collaborating with students, postdoctoral fellows, and visiting scholars worldwide, the Centre is committed to training a new generation of African Atmospheric Scientists and faculty members. Research endeavors primarily focus on experimental and Modelling aspects. A notable characteristic of the Centre’s research is the strong collaboration among all members. The selected candidate will have to develop independent research activities on atmospheric chemistry and aerosols and contribute to high-quality teaching.
Candidate Profile:
We are looking for an experimentalist from all around the world and would welcome application from candidates with expertise and excellent training in atmospheric chemistry studies (laboratory and field). Candidate should have internationally recognized research expertise in one or more chemistry and physical chemistry disciplines, preferably holding a Ph.D. in Chemistry, in Physical Chemistry or another appropriate field. The candidate's higher education and professional experience outside Morocco should be substantial to ensure the international character of the institution. Strong collaboration skills with researchers from diverse disciplines and a keen interest and proven experience in student support, mentoring, and interactive pedagogies are essential. Nationality is not a limiting factor.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Center is looking for an Associate Professor to work on Atmospheric Aerosol Sciences. The Center seeks to advance the research frontier on aerosol-air quality-health-climate interactions. Research foci can include aerosol remote sensing, ground sampling and chemical composition characterization and their integration with large datasets. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on other problems related to global atmospheric chemistry, air quality, and model development.
Responsibilities include initiating and developing high-quality research, publishing in leading journals, and presenting at international conferences. The Center encourages qualified candidates who will contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
The successful candidate will have the responsibility in:
- setting up and running a laboratory dedicated to atmospheric aerosols chemistry studies in the laboratory and the field.
- conducting and maintaining the high-quality continuous investigations of atmospheric aerosols including dust and secondary organic aerosols and harmonize the measurement and calibration procedures with other groups worldwide.
Candidate will also work with modellers based at various sites to interpret the data from the UM6P Stations and other global data sets and with the wider team members including postdoctoral research associates and PhD students.
