Primary Function of Organizational Unit: The Department of History and Political Science is committed to fostering students' aspirations, cultivating intellectual curiosity, and preparing graduates for meaningful careers and engaged citizenship. Through a dynamic curriculum, students develop strong written and oral communication skills, ethical reasoning, critical thinking abilities, intercultural and global awareness, and expertise in scholarly research. Department programs encourage reflective inquiry, an appreciation of historical and political processes, and a deeper understanding of the forces that shape society. The Department is one of six academic units within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences ( CAHSS ), which also includes the Departments of Criminal Justice, English, Journalism and Mass Communication, Liberal Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts. CAHSS serves more than 1,950 students and employs over 160 faculty members dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and service. N.C. A&T is a public, land-grant, doctoral research institution and has been the largest historically Black university in the country for the past decade.
