Associate Professor in Animal Morphogenesis

The Department of Cell & Systems Biology in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the field of Animal Morphogenesis. The appointment is at the rank of Associate Professor with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.

We seek outstanding applicants with a track record of demonstrated excellence in applying cell biological approaches to address fundamental questions in animal morphogenesis that will enhance and complement the strengths of the Department of Cell & Systems Biology in genomics, developmental biology, cell biology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics. Candidates must employ cutting edge approaches in imaging, mechanobiology, and/or systems biology to address questions of tissue morphogenesis during animal development.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Biology or a related field (e.g., Molecular & Cellular Biology, Systems Biology, Synthetic Biology, Developmental Biology, Genome Biology, Genetics, etc.) and a clearly demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. Candidates will have an established international reputation and be expected to sustain, lead, and maintain a vigorous, innovative, externally funded, and independent research program.

Evidence of excellence in research will be demonstrated by a record of sustained publications in top-ranked and field relevant academic journals meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, evidence of peer-reviewed research funding, trainee mentorship, and other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline, as well as strong endorsements by referees of high standing.

In addition, evidence of excellence in teaching and a commitment to mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students will be demonstrated by strong endorsements from referees of top international stature, a teaching statement highlighting previous teaching experience and accomplishments, and a teaching dossier (with required materials outlined below) submitted as part of the application.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
