Associate Professor in Innovation in Engineering Education - DTU Entrepreneurship

Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark

Job Description

The Center for Technology Entrepreneurship at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for an Associate Professor to lead the development of our flagship course, Innovation in Engineering, and to conduct research within entrepreneurship, innovation education, teaching methodologies, and didactics. We seek a visionary educator and researcher committed to fostering interdisciplinary innovation competencies among engineering students.

Responsibilities and qualifications

In this role, you will be responsible for developing and coordinating the Innovation in Engineering course. This includes applying structured innovation frameworks, for example the Double Diamond methodology, and ensuring the curriculum fully integrates DTU’s Signature Innovation Mindset. You will guide students through multidisciplinary projects, enhancing their understanding of feasibility, viability, desirability, responsibility, and sustainability in engineering contexts. Your responsibilities also involve conducting impactful research in innovation and entrepreneurship education, actively publishing findings, and contributing to the academic community.

Innovation in Engineering is DTU’s flagship course in innovation education and a cornerstone of the university’s Signature Innovation Mindset. Mandatory for all MSc students, the course engages over 2,600 students annually through three distinct course offerings. A dedicated full-time programme manager supports the course's coordination and delivery.

Furthermore, you will facilitate and maintain meaningful collaborations with industry partners, industry clusters, student associations, and internal university departments to enrich the practical experiences offered in the course. You will play a key role in mentoring students through innovation challenges, fostering an environment of constructive feedback, collaboration, and creativity.

You must be responsible for the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

Candidates must hold a PhD in Entrepreneurship, Design, Engineering didactics, or a closely related discipline as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship and documented didactic/pedagogic training.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate either a proven research track record or substantial potential in areas such as innovation education, entrepreneurship pedagogy, or didactic methodologies within engineering education contexts. Additionally, experience or a strong commitment to designing and delivering interdisciplinary educational programs with active industry collaboration is essential.

You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

  • Experience and quality of teaching
  • Research experience
  • Research vision and potential
  • International impact and experience
  • Societal impact
  • Innovativeness, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
  • Leadership, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills
  • Communication skills

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
