Work assignments
We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Professor to join the TreeBioTEC ERA-Chair research programme, focusing on plant developmental biology and plant genomics. The project integrates comparative genomics and multi-omics analyses to identify genomic mechanisms relevant to plant development.
Main duties
- Conduct high-level research, development and creative activities in the field of plant developmental biology.
- Plan and carry out research projects, apply for research funding, analyse and publish research results in international peer-reviewed journals, and present research findings at international conferences and seminars.
- Contribute to achieving the scientific objectives of the Horizon Europe TreeBioTEC ERA Chair project.
- Teach at all levels of higher education and supervise bachelor's, master's and doctoral students.
- Contribute to the development of the field and disseminate research results within the scientific community and to society.
Education
PhD in molecular biology of plant development or an equivalent qualification.
Work experience
- Proven research experience in the relevant area.
- The successful candidate should have expertise in plant vascular development and plant cell wall formation, particularly in the role of callose polymers in cell wall structure and plasmodesmata function.
- Ability to organise teaching and teach at all levels of higher education.
Personal qualities
- Professionalism, dedication, conscientiousness, leadership, and good teamwork skills.
- An interest in developing a research strategy that complements the Institute's other research activities will be considered an advantage.
Language skills
Very good spoken and written command of English. According to the Language Act, academic staff with foreign citizenship working in Estonia must have acquired at least B1-level Estonian language skills after five years of work. This requirement will be added to the contract. The Centre for Professional Development offers foreigners and their family members the opportunity to participate in Estonian language courses.

A candidate can be required to submit the original or a certified copy of the document (including its annexes) showing the candidate to hold the required qualification. If the candidate has acquired the higher education in question abroad, he or she may be required to submit an assessment issued by the Academic Recognition Information Centre (the Estonian ENIC/NARIC) of his or her qualification in respect of the qualification requirements for the position.
- A statement not exceeding 1500 words of the aims to be achieved during the term in the position, and the outline of an action plan for achieving these.
- Other materials considered relevant by the candidate (a list of such materials must be included in the application or annexed to it).
