Position Description

The Terrence Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research (Donnelly Centre) and the Department of Biochemistry in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto invite applications for a full-time tenure stream appointment in the area of aging, cellular senescence, and/or tissue regeneration.

  • Appointment: Joint (51% Donnelly Centre / 49% Department of Biochemistry)
  • Anticipated Start Date: September 1, 2026

We seek a colleague whose research program investigates the molecular and cellular mechanisms of aging and senescence and applies these insights to tissue regeneration, age-related diseases, or longevity. The successful candidate will strengthen the Donnelly Centre’s interdisciplinary research community, where collaboration and innovative technology development are highly valued.

Qualifications

  • Education: PhD in a relevant field
  • Research Excellence:
    • Strong international reputation
    • Sustained high-impact publications in top-ranked journals
    • Evidence of innovative, independent research and externally funded programs
    • Expertise may include:
      • Genetic/epigenetic analysis of aging
      • Regenerative biology (e.g., organoids, model systems)
      • Senescence-targeted therapeutics
      • High-dimensional functional genomic techniques (e.g., single-cell omics, spatial transcriptomics, CRISPR screens, live-cell imaging)
  • Teaching Excellence:
    • Experience in undergraduate and graduate teaching
    • Teaching dossier including philosophy, accomplishments, sample materials, and evaluations

Preference will be given to candidates trained in molecular genetics, regenerative medicine, systems biology, or biogerontology.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustain an internationally competitive research program
  • Lead innovative and collaborative projects at the Donnelly Centre and Department of Biochemistry
  • Secure external funding
  • Contribute to graduate and undergraduate teaching
  • Supervise and mentor trainees

  4. Detailed research statement (max 3 pages, excluding references)

    • One-page teaching philosophy and interests
    • Teaching accomplishments (undergraduate and graduate)
    • Sample course materials
    • Teaching evaluations

Each section must begin on a new page and include a header with the applicant’s name and section title.
