The Department of History and Political Science at Florida Southern College invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track position as Associate Professor of Political Science. The successful candidate will serve as the director and primary faculty member for the newly created Masters of Public Administration program, launching in Fall 2026.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Serve as director of the MPA program. The program director reports directly to the Dean of Arts and Sciences and oversees all aspects of program administration, including student recruitment, curriculum implementation, program evaluation and enhancement, and community engagement.
2. Teach an array of graduate courses in the MPA program, including supervising internships and theses.
3. Teach an undergraduate course in Public Administration each year, contributing to the department’s minor in Public Service and Public Administration.
4. Engage in service to the School, the College, the profession, and the community.
5. Maintain a robust program of scholarly activity, potentially including collaborative research with graduate students.
6. Contribute to the success of the department by performing all other duties as needed to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the College.

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS

1. A Ph.D. in Political Science or a Doctorate in Public Administration (D.P.A.)
2. Areas of expertise must include both governmental and non-profit management and organization.
3. Experience teaching graduate courses in public administration, and the ability to offer classes in person, as well as in online and hybrid formats.
4. Having directed a program in Public Administration a major asset but not required.
5. A record of teaching and scholarly activity consistent with the rank of Associate Professor.
