4. Job description and responsibilities The Institute for Solid State Physics invites applications from researchers who synthesize materials composed of molecules and atomic clusters (a group of atoms formed by chemical bonds) and promote new materials research with a view to physical properties and functionalities. The successful candidate will create new trends in materials science and actively contribute to the joint-research activities on material synthesis and characterization in ISSP. The scope of change is as follows: Displacement, concurrent service, and secondment may be ordered. However, in principle, such orders may not be issued against one's will. Details are in accordance with Article 4 of the Regulations on the Employment of University of Tokyo Faculty Members.

5. Qualifications and requirements The candidate must hold a Ph.D. or an equivalent degree, or be on track to earn one before the start date.

6. Start date As soon as possible following the receipt of a job offer.

7. Duration of appointment This appointment will change to a five-year contract appointment at the start of the fiscal year in which the appointee reaches the age of 56. The contract appointment can be renewed once for an additional five years period.

8. Probation period 6 months from the start date of employment (as defined in article 8 of UTokyo’s “Rules on Employment Conditions”).

14. Working hours Based on the discretionary work system for professional work, working hours are deemed to be 7 hours and 45 minutes per day.

15. Days off Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, and end-of-year holidays (December 29th to January 3rd).

16. Paid leave Annual paid leave; special paid leave, etc.

17. Salary The basic salary will be decided after considering the successful candidate’s academic and professional background. (Reference: Approximate annual salary is 6-12 million yen. The annual salary is determined based on factors such as academic background and work experience, so the stated amount is not guaranteed). Bonus payments (twice a year), commuting allowance (up to 55,000 yen per month), and other allowances and a system for regular wage raises are provided following the related regulations of UTokyo.

18. Insurance As stipulated by law, enrollment in the insurance scheme provided by the Mutual Aid Association of MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology), employment insurance, and workers' accident compensation insurance.

19. Others

・The successful candidate will be determined following the ISSP faculty meeting’s deliberations. The position will remain vacant if no suitable candidates are identified.

・If, at the time of employment, the person is under contract as an individual with a foreign corporation or government or is receiving money or other significant benefits from them, the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Law may restrict the sharing of technologies, which result in the person may have difficulty fulfilling the duties as a faculty member of the University. In such cases, it is necessary to limit these contracts and profits to the extent that they do not interfere with sharing technical skills necessary for the job at the University of Tokyo.
