Job description

The outcome of such an assessment may have an impact upon possible employment with the University.
The Department of Educational Psychology is one of five departments in the Faculty of Education at UJ. The Department endeavours to fulfil the vision, mission and strategic objectives of UJ with a focus on preparing students to be leading practitioners within the fields of Life Orientation, Inclusive Education, Remedial Education and the professional field of Educational Psychology. The staff are committed to providing innovative and quality teaching and learning, and promoting contextually relevant research, thinking and practice.
The department invites applications for the academic post of Associate Professor/ Professor in educational psychology. We seek an individual with excellent academic credentials in teaching and research, and who possesses attributes of adaptability and versatility in respect of the various programmes/courses, which the department offers.
Responsibilities:
- Involvement in curriculum development and teaching in the department’s programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels including DEd, Honours, Masters, ADE REM Ed, PGCE and BEd programs.
- Development of modules within technology assisted teaching, learning and assessment practices.
- Research supervision of Honours, Masters and Doctoral postgraduate students in the field of Educational Psychology.
- Lead research projects
- Procure funding for research
- Involvement in core activities of the department such as academic administration, research, short-course development and marketing.
- Involvement in community engagement and continuous professional development.
Minimum requirements
Minimum requirements for Professor
- Applicable PhD/DEd degree
- At least 6 years' teaching experience at the tertiary level
- Experience in blended/online teaching
- Sustained accredited research output (in local and international journals and books/ book chapters)
- Experience in postgraduate supervision at Honours, Masters and Doctoral level
Minimum requirements for Associate Professor
- Applicable PhD/DEd degree
- At least 4 years' teaching experience at the tertiary level
- Experience in blended/online teaching
- Sustained accredited research output (in local and international journals and books/ book chapters)
- Experience in postgraduate supervision at Honours, Masters and Doctoral level
Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:
- Excellent written and verbal English communications skills
- Good planning and organisational skills
- Good interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to collaborate with colleagues
- An outstanding ability to use a range of technology-enhanced tools
- Well-developed scholarship of teaching and learning
- Adept at teaching and development of materials for blended an online education
Recommendations:
- Experience in leading research and/or educational psychology development projects
- Experience in securing research funding
- Collaboration with leading scholars in the field of educational psychology
- Experience in the development and delivery of on-line and short learning programmes will be a strong recommendation
- Registered as an Educational Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
