The School of Graduate Studies (GS) was established to strengthen the central support for postgraduate programmes and monitor their quality in alignment with the University’s strategic direction of expanding and providing quality postgraduate education in the digital era. To directly provide professional education for the wider society, the GS also offers a diverse range of Taught Postgraduate (TPg) programmes under three academic clusters:
- Policy and Education Leadership Cluster, covering public administration, policy studies, and higher education management;
- Regional Development and Urban Studies Cluster, focusing on regional development, and urban governance, housing studies, and arts and heritage management; and
- Health, Ageing and Social Innovation Cluster, addressing health services management, ageing studies, gerontechnology, and social innovation and entrepreneurship.
To support the continuous growth of GS TPg programmes, the School is now inviting applications for the post of Associate Professor. The appointee is expected to possess research and teaching experiences in one or more of the following areas:
- Policy studies
- Social policy
- Education policy
- Higher education management
- Health and social care and policy
- Urban policy
The appointee will be expected to (a) conduct high-quality research in the state-of-the-art areas in the area(s) specified above; (b) secure external competitive research grants in various funding bodies; (c) teach multiple subjects in postgraduate-level programmes in the area(s) specified above; (d) recruit and supervise research prostrgraduate students; (e) work on the promotions and admissions as well as the operations for postgraduate programmes; (f) contribute to academic programme/course development; and (g) contribute to other administrative duties as required by the Dean or Associate Dean of GS.
General Requirements
Applicants should have (i) a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline such as policy studies, public administration, education management, or other relevant areas; (ii) a strong publication record and outstanding citation counts in the specific area(s); (iii) a track record in securing external research grants; (iv) good experience in teaching and programme administration in the specific area(s); (v) excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills; and (vi) good command of English and Chinese (including Putonghua). At least six years of relevant experience in the tenure-track academic post is expected. Preference will be given to candidates with outstanding academic training and international exposure.
Appointment
The conditions of appointments will be competitive. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointees. Appointments will normally be made on a fixed-term contract of up to three years.
Appointment will normally be made on an initial contract of three years, which, subject to review and mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment with possibility of consideration for substantiation.
