Offer Description
The Serra Húnter Programme (SHP) is offering 2 positions as associate professor and 35 as tenure-eligible lecturer in different fields of study at the public universities of Catalonia (Spain). Successful candidates will be hired by the university offering the position and are expected to cooperate with existing groups and/or develop new lines of research, complementary to those already in place. Please note that these positions also entail teaching obligations. In order to participate, candidates for an associate professor position must hold a PhD, they have to prove international experience for 1 year, teaching experience and an excellent research record, and they also have to accredit at least 9 months of postdoctoral experience in a different university from the one of the doctoral studies. Skills/Qualifications
Typical candidates are the ones having spent at least three postdoc years with international exposure for at least one year. However, to obtain the associate professor accreditation to be able to take part in the university competition, candidates will have to proof teaching experience, an excellent research record and to accredit at least 9 months of postdoctoral experience in a different university from the one of the doctoral studies.
At this level, they are expected to have an excellent record of publications in good venues in their fields and have participated in competitive research projects. Experience in leading such projects will be particularly valued. They should also have teaching experience. English at a professional level is a requirement; knowledge of Catalan or Spanish is not a requirement (language training will be provided to new faculty by the university). Benefits
A full-time permanent contract is offered. Salaries will be set according to Catalan university regulations. The annual starting salary for an associate professor is currently 44.193,82 euros, before taxes. At the end of their academic career, associate professors can have doubled their starting salary if they receive positive assessments in teaching and research merit evaluations. In addition to salary, contracts include health, retirement, and unemployment benefits.
Eligibility criteria
Candidates must hold a PhD degree, teaching and research experience, and prove international academic experience of at least 1 year. Candidates will be assessed according to international evaluation criteria applied to high-level academic activity, with emphasis on the significance and impact of scientific and technical publications and the competitive research projects obtained; teaching quality and recognition; knowledge transfer activities, intellectual property rights and registered patents; leadership capacity; international mobility and visibility and other outstanding academic and professional achievements.
Selection process
The selection process has two steps. The first step, international call, enables candidates to apply for the accreditation for permanent contracts required to participate in the second step and to check if they can accredit one year of international academic experience. The second step, competition at the university, is the actual recruitment competition process, handled by the university in accordance with its own rules.
