Associate Professorship (clinical) of Public Health

Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences (NDPCHS) in association with Wolfson College

The Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences (NDPCHS) and Wolfson College are recruiting a Clinical Associate Professor of Public Health. We are looking for a clinical research lead who will complement our current research themes and would be particularly interested in candidates with research interests in the following areas: Public Health; Global Health; Health Behaviours.

We expect to appoint at the level of Associate Professor. The appointee will be a recognised authority in their field, demonstrating a sustained career of leading research and possessing breadth and depth of specialist knowledge.

This is a clinical academic post requiring medical qualification. You are expected to maintain an honorary consultant contract throughout the appointment, which requires GMC registration with a licence to practise and be on the Specialist Register or General Practitioner Register as appropriate. Medically qualified clinicians in public health without current GMC (or UKPHR registration at consultant-equivalent level), may also be considered if they can demonstrate a substantial and impactful track record in public health practice.

We are seeking an outstanding clinician scientist in Public Health or Primary Care, or with closely related research interests, who has an exceptional research record; shows evidence of substantial independent research accomplishment and a strong publication record, as well as evidence of a substantial and realisable research plan which will complement the department’s research strategy. You will bring experience in public health practice, education, and research, supported by appropriate professional registration (e.g., FPH, RCGP, GMC, GDC, UKPHR). You will show evidence of excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching, including supervision and research training and have a commitment to the organisation and delivery of teaching. You should also have the ability and willingness to undertake a proportionate share of administrative duties within the Department and the College, and a commitment to the academic and pastoral support of students.

You will be a member of NDPCHS as well as a Fellow at Wolfson College. The role will involve undertaking independent research, graduate teaching, and graduate supervision. It will also encompass administrative, governance and pastoral duties for the department and college.

NDPCH is a top-ranked centre for academic primary care in the UK, leading world-class research and training to rethink the way healthcare is delivered in primary care settings. Our main research focus is on enhancing prevention, early diagnosis and management of common illness.
