The Oxford School of Global and Area Studies (OSGA) seeks to make an appointment to an Associate Professorship in International Relations of Russia, Eastern Europe and Eurasia, in association with St Antony’s College.

About the Role: The Oxford School of Global and Area Studies (OSGA) seek to make a joint appointment to an Associate Professorship in International Relations of Russia, Eastern Europe and Eurasia, in association with St Antony’s College. This is a full-time, permanent post, subject to successful review during the first five years, commencing in the 2026/27 academic year.

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake advanced, internationally excellent research with particular attention to International Relations and Area Studies, to teach and to supervise at graduate levels in lectures, classes, and small-group tutorials; to contribute to admissions, examining, and assessment, and to contribute fully to academic administration in both University units and the College.

About You: Applicants must hold a doctorate in International Relations or a closely related field. Candidates must have completed their doctoral degree before 1 October 2025 and be able to demonstrate:

  • A proven record of research achievement at an internationally excellent level in Russian, East European, and/or Eurasian Studies with a focus on International Relations as evidenced by world-class publications and innovative research projects, proportionate to the level of the candidate’s career; and a proven ability to contribute to the research culture and output of OSGA; fluency of at least one REES language including reading, writing, and ability to work with primary REES language source material.
  • A clear ambitious research agenda with potential to attract major funding.
  • Proven or potential excellence in teaching and supervision.
  • A commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion in research, teaching, and administration.

Location and Benefits: The postholder will be teaching at the Russian and East European Studies (REES) Programme, which is an area unit of the Oxford School of Global Area Studies (OSGA), and will be affiliated with the Russian and Eurasian Studies Centre (RESC) at St Antony's College.
