Associate Research Scientist in the Division of Science (Mathematics - AI) - Dr. Panče Naumov

The Smart Materials Lab (Panče Naumov Group) at the Division of Science and Mathematics, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a highly motivated associate research scientist candidate in the areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for materials science, with an emphasis on structure-property-relationships, materials optimization, materials under extreme conditions, and generative AI.

Candidates must possess substantial experience in artificial intelligence and machine learning methods, specifically in AI-driven materials discovery, machine learning applications for materials, or generative AI related to materials. The successful candidate will independently lead a project focused on developing generative AI models to establish structure-property relationships for materials discovery. This individual will be expected to collaborate closely with the project team and coordinate efforts with experimentalists from the Smart Materials Lab (SML) and the Center for Smart Engineering Materials (CSEM) at NYUAD. The results of this work are anticipated to be published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at prominent conferences. We offer unique opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaborations, organization of scientific workshops, and attendance at conferences.

Key qualifications include a PhD with at least 3 years in a relevant field, expertise in AI/ML (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Python), interest in materials applications, and a strong publication record. The position is for two years, with the possibility of renewal, subject to mutual agreement. The successful candidate is also expected to play an active role in other projects and activities within the Smart Materials Lab and assist in supervising undergraduate or PhD students.

To apply, submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae that includes a complete publication list, a statement of research interests, a transcript, and three letters of reference, all in PDF format. For any inquiries, please contact Dr. Panče Naumov (pance.naumov@nyu.edu).

The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. Applications are being accepted immediately, and candidates will be considered until the position is filled.
