Associate Research Scientist
The Bioelectronics Systems Lab (http://www.bioee.ee.columbia.edu) at The Fu Foundation School of Engineering & Applied Science of Columbia University in the City of New York invites applications for an Associate Research Scientist. The Associate Research Scientist will conduct research in the Bioelectronics Systems Lab on a brain-computer interface to work on the development of a new class of brain implant devices. Reporting to the Lab Director, the Associate Research Scientist will be responsible for assisting with semiconductor processing and electronics, and working with graduate students and postdocs. The Associate Research Scientist should be able to work independently, troubleshoot, and resolve problems involving both equipment and processes in Columbia’s cleanroom facilities. The engineers should be able to learn about unfamiliar topics quickly and independently. The engineer should be able to communicate clearly with lab users, other team members, other departments of the university, and vendors as needed. The Associate Research Scientist will also assist with general lab management responsibilities, maintaining a safe and effective working environment within the Bioelectronics Systems Lab in compliance with all University and government requirements and regulations as directed by the University's Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) department. That includes but is not limited to the safe handling of chemicals and gas cylinders, implementing and maintaining safety training, and working in a safe manner in the laboratory.
A Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required. Candidates with a strong grasp of semiconductor processing and electronics are a plus. A minimum of 5 years of working experience conducting organized research or other related educational experience is required.
