Job Summary
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at Tyler invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2026.
This position is open to all areas of research, development, and innovation within Mechanical Engineering. However, preference will be given to candidates whose work aligns with cutting-edge technological applications in areas such as, but not limited to, innovative energy generation and management, autonomous platforms and machines, smart materials and intelligent manufacturing, biomedical materials and devices, and related ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Mechanical Engineering courses with focus on student success
  • Maintain regular on-campus presence.
  • Attend departmental meetings.

Required Qualifications

  • Candidates must hold a Bachelor's and a doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Doctoral candidates who expect to complete their degree prior to the start date will also be considered.

Other Information

Highly qualified candidates may be considered for Rising STARs funding of up to $300,000 through the University of Texas System Science and Technology Acquisition and Retention (STARs, https://www.utsystem.edu/offices/academic-affairs/stars-program) program to support the establishment of new research programs

About The College of Engineering

The Civil Engineering program was established in 2005 on the main campus in Tyler, TX. In 2013, the College of Engineering inaugurated the Houston Engineering Center (HEC) on the Alief Hayes Campus of Houston Community College, offering junior, senior, and graduate-level courses in civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering and construction management.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
