Athletic Assistant Cross Country/Indoor-Outdoor Track and Field
Position Summary:
Assist with overseeing all facets of a varsity sports program including recruiting, organizing and planning of practices and game strategies and monitoring academic progress. Athletic Assistant positions are 10 months (August 1-May 31). Athletic assistant's tenure concludes upon earning a master's degree or the conclusion of the agreement (maximum 3 year position).
Responsibilities:
- Understanding of, and adherence to, the Utica University Athletic Department philosophy, NCAA and Empire 8 rules and regulations
- Recruit and retain prospective student-athletes giving them an opportunity to compete, and better themselves as athletes and individuals. This includes cross-country runners, throwers, jumpers, sprinters and all appropriate track and field student-athletes.
- Plan and run daily practices sessions to ensure student-athletes are organized and prepared.
- Provide leadership to ensure that student-athletes have a positive experience and monitor student-athletes academic success, providing direction when necessary.
- Manage equipment usage, order and maintain uniforms, hurdles, etc. Assist Athletic Director with game scheduling, transportation, and work with Sports Information department to ensure all statistics and publications are accurate and updated.
- May be required to teach physical education classes each semester as assigned by the Athletic Director.
- Takes an active role in the development of the department's strategic and operational plans as required by department leadership. Works closely with department supervisor to develop and implement operational goals that support departmental success.
- Responsible for working with supervisor and other team members to achieve successful results on all established individual and departmental goals and key performance indicators.
- Athletic Assistants are expected to take graduate classes and work toward their master's degree.
- May perform other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required
- 3-5 years experience preferred
- Must have strong working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
Certifications:
- Must be certified in first aid, CPR and AED
Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of Cross Country and Track and Field
- Interpersonal communication skills
- A strong commitment to diversity and work continually to enhance diversity of our students, faculty, and staff
- Strong organizational skills
Supervisory Responsibility:
- May oversee assigned work-study students
Driving Responsibility:
- Must maintain a clean driving record as defined by University insurance carrier guidelines
- Motor vehicle record will be monitored regularly using NYS License Event Notification Service or License Monitor, Inc. for out of state licenses
- Will be required to attend van training annually
Travel:
- Must be willing to travel

Position Information:
Stipend of $6,700, 12 graduate credit hours per year, on campus housing will be provided and meal plan
