Departmental Objective: The Grounds department strives to effectively implement the University president’s vision for a world class campus that attracts, inspires, and bonds people to CNU. Additionally, Grounds provides Christopher Newport University’s students with an outstanding intercollegiate Division III Athletics facility that emphasizes safety, provides aesthetic appearance and value, and is environmentally responsible and economically feasible.
Purpose of the Position: This position will be responsible for maintaining athletic and campus turf/landscape areas while striving for a safe workplace with required training for equipment operation. It will coordinate with supervisors each daily task. This position will also ensure that assigned equipment is safely and efficiently used and maintained.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Related to Position:
- Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance
- Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance equipment use
- Basic writing and verbal skills
Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required :
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent education and experience that equates to a high school diploma
- Valid Driver’s license
Additional Consideration(s):
Education:
- VDACS Registered Technician license
Experience:
- Basic experience in grounds maintenance
- Experience maintaining an athletic field or high-end turf grass system

Conditions of Employment:
- This is an HOURLY position and does NOT entitle the incumbent to Commonwealth of Virginia benefits and is limited to 1500 hours in a 365-day period.
- Selected candidate will be required to attend a 2-Day New Employee Orientation Program.
