Job Summary

Supervises the comprehensive medical care of assigned students and/or student athletes. Provides medical coverage for department or athletic events. Supervises Athletic Trainer Interns and student athletic trainers in the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.

Responsibilities

  1. Provides comprehensive prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and daily healthcare for assigned students and/or student-athletes
  2. Maintains accurate and HIPAA-compliant medical records for all assigned individuals
  3. Completes administrative duties as assigned by departmental leadership
  4. Develops and enforces institutional policies related to the medical care of students and student-athletes
  5. Maintains consistent and effective communication with medical personnel and athletic department staff
  6. Serves as a subject matter expert on relevant aspects of Athletic Training services
  7. Educates students and athletes on injury management, concussion protocols, at-home care, and rehabilitation procedures
  8. Designs and implements individualized rehabilitation and injury prevention plans based on each student's needs and goals
  9. Refers students and athletes to appropriate healthcare professionals to ensure optimal care when necessary
  10. Reviews and updates relevant policies, procedures, treatment protocols, and standing medical orders
  11. Collaborates with appropriate personnel to develop and maintain Emergency Action Plans for all athletic facilities
  12. Manages inventory and ensures proper maintenance of medical supplies, equipment, AEDs, medical kits, supplements, and Athletic Training Room (ATR) cleanliness and organization

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Athletic Training or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience

Other Required Qualifications

Current, valid, and unrestricted driver's license; State of Georgia Athletic Training Licensure; NATABOC Certification; First Aid/CPR/AED certification

Required Experience

On-the-job training provided

Preferred Educational Qualifications

An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field

Preferred Experience

Experience in collegiate sports athletic training or rehabilitation; Previous relevant experience in athletic training in a post-secondary level program or professional training in a related sports program

Abilities

Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time, meeting assigned deadlines; Able to maintain confidentiality (HIPAA, FERPA, etc.); Able to effectively integrate university and department policy into care practices; Able to maintain a strong working relationship with the supervising physician and/or practice; Able to develop and maintain professional contacts and resources that support work productivity; Able and willing to demonstrate and maintain competency as required for job title and the area(s) of responsibility; Able to adhere to and ensure compliance with all HIPAA standards and regulations

Knowledge

Familiarity with NCAA rules and compliance standards; Knowledge and experience with software related to healthcare management; Knowledge of standards and best practices in sports medicine; Knowledge of conservative RTP interpretation, emerging techniques and skills, current industry research, data results, and application; Understands industry standards and accepted practices; Experience with empowering and motivating students

Skills

Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, technology, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills; Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite); Strong treatment tracking and notes; Strong attention to detail and follow up skills; Strong customer service skills and phone etiquette

Other Information

This is not a supervisory position. This position does not have any financial responsibilities. This position will be required to drive. This role is considered a position of trust. This position does not require a purchasing card (P-Card). This position may travel 1% - 24% of the time.

Background Check

Standard Enhanced; Education; DMV; 9 Panel Lab Drug Test. Per the University System of Georgia background check policy, all final candidates will be required to consent to a criminal background investigation.
