About The Role: Our Athletics Academy is targeted at children of all abilities aged 8-9 (school year 4). The aim of the Academy is to provide participants with an introduction to athletics, and the various disciplines within the sport, as well as some core movement skills. Successful candidates will work as part of a small team of coaches to deliver athletics sessions, under the supervision of a Lead Coach. Sessions take place at the Athletics & Hockey Centre, Swansea Bay Sports Park. Post holders will assist in the delivery of our junior Athletics Academy, a scheme that currently runs two evenings a week over three 10-week terms. Applicants will be expected to deliver the full range of Athletics events, broken down into a run/jump/throw each week. Applicants should hold a current UKA ‘Coaching Assistant’ qualification or be prepared to undertake the necessary training to obtain this before October 2025. Experience of coaching young/novice athletes also desirable, as is evidence of working in a small team, excellent interpersonal skills, and sound technical knowledge across all athletics disciplines.

Welsh Language Skills: The Welsh language level required for this role is Level 1 - A little. The role holder will be able to pronounce Welsh words, answer the phone in Welsh (good morning/afternoon) and use very basic everyday words and phrases (thank you, please etc.). Level 1 can be reached by completing a 1 hour course. The University is a proud bilingual institution, our Welsh Language Strategy outlines our aspiration to promote the language and enable our staff to engage with the language as an additional workplace skill and as a gateway to new cultural and social opportunities.
