Williams College is seeking an Audio Video and Architecture Technician to join the Art Department to provide support to the audio, video, and architecture studio courses taught in the studio wing of the department. Reporting to the Director of Studio Operations, this full-time, year-round position works directly with faculty, students, and other staff as they support both the audio and video needs and the architecture needs of the Art Department.
The successful candidate is a well-rounded individual with technical skills in audio, video, and architectural rendering. They will work independently and collaboratively with Art Department faculty to provide operational support for the efficient functioning of all the audio, video, and architecture courses. This includes managing inventory and procurement, overseeing student equipment checkouts and returns, overseeing architecture studio organization and maintenance, and performing other AV projects or duties as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent and/or between 2 years of technical experience working with audio and video equipment and software are required, along with 1 years of rendering software experience are required.
- Experience in operating video, audio, and lighting equipment, and in the production techniques required for video production.
- Working knowledge of audio and video equipment, lighting, and chroma keying.
- Experience in using the Mac OS and Adobe CC Suite is required.
- Knowledge of SketchUp with VRAY software is preferred for working with architectural rendering needs, or a willingness to learn.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of post-production processes and the operation of camcorders, DSLR/mirrorless cameras, and audio equipment, with the ability to support filmmaking practices in an educational context.
- Ability to instruct and support students in utilizing studio resources across the art department for academic assignments and projects, while coordinating teaching assistants in collaboration with faculty.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple classroom needs across architecture, audio, and video courses, including supply ordering, maintenance, and general classroom support.
- Ability to organize AV inventory and develop efficient, accessible systems for equipment checkout and use.
- Experience managing multiple budgets, including ordering materials for courses and individual student projects.
- Interest and ability to research, develop, and implement instructional technologies and materials; create demo materials and conduct in-class equipment demonstrations.
- Collaborative approach to working with faculty and students, with demonstrated experience engaging, educating, and mentoring a diverse group of learners.
- Interest in adopting and advancing best practices for new materials, technologies, and pedagogical approaches.
- Willingness to contribute to special projects and support departmental events.
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain professionalism and flexibility in an academic environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with staff, faculty, and students.
Physical Requirements of the Position:
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. The position also requires mobility to climb step stools/ladders.
The Audio Video and Architecture Studio Technician is a full-time (40 hours/week), year-round, benefited position that involves a significant amount of on-site presence. Remote work arrangements will not be available at this time. Pay range is from $30.00 - $33.00, commensurate with experience.
