Classification Pay Scale
In compliance with SB 1162, Western University of Health Sciences is providing a pay scale for this position. The pay scale reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. Within this range, the individual pay is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and work location. Please note that the compensation details listed reflects the base salary only.
Expected Pay Scale
Minimum: $60,000.00 Annually
Maximum: $65,000.00 Annually
Job Summary
Under the supervision of Manager of Classroom and Multimedia Services, the AudioVisual (AV) Specialist is responsible for the configuration, programming, installation, maintenance, and support of AV systems across Oregon campuses and University locations. This role combines hands-on technical implementation with expertise in AV control system programming (e.g., Crestron, Extron, Q-SYS). The Specialist collaborates with internal stakeholders, vendors, and other IT teams to ensure optimal performance of AV technologies in classrooms, conference rooms, event spaces, and other facilities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in programming AV control systems (e.g., Crestron SIMPL, VTPro-e, or Crestron Studio; Extron Global Configurator Professional; Q-SYS Designer)
- Strong knowledge of AV signal flow, networked AV, and DSP configuration
- Understanding of AV engineering, digital sound processing (DSPs) and gain structure
- Understanding of IT networking fundamentals (VLANs, PoE, IP addressing)
- Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
- Excellent troubleshooting and documentation skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage priorities independently and meet project deadlines
- Commitment to providing high-quality customer service and user training
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working on ladders, in ceiling spaces, or in tight environments
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between campus locations as needed
- Experience with asset management systems (e.g., ServiceNow, TDX)
- Project coordination or AV design experience (CAD or D-Tools familiarity a plus)
- Ability to train end-users and write technical documentation or user guides
Required Qualifications
Education & Training
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Information Technology, Media Technology, Computer Science, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of recent experience installing, programming, or supporting AV systems in enterprise or educational environments
- Experience with Crestron, Extron or similar AV control system platforms
- Hands-on experience configuring and supporting AV components such as projectors, displays, microphones, cameras, DSPs, and switching equipment
Technical Skills
- Proficient in control system programming (e.g., Crestron SIMPL, VTPro-e, Crestron Studio, Extron Global Configurator, or Q-SYS Designer)
- Strong understanding of AV signal flow, audio DSP, and networked AV systems
- Basic understanding of IT networking (IP addressing, VLANs, PoE, etc.)
- Ability to read technical diagrams, wiring schematics, and architectural plans
Preferred Qualifications
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field (e.g., Information Systems, Audio Engineering)
- AVIXA CTS, CTS-I, or CTS-D certification
- Crestron Certified Programmer, Extron Control Professional, or Q-SYS Level 2 or higher
- Dante Level 2 or 3 certification
Experience
- 5+ years of AV/IT experience in higher education, healthcare, or similarly complex multi-site environments
- Experience supporting hybrid conferencing platforms (Zoom, Teams, etc.) and lecture capture systems
- Experience with AV-over-IP (e.g., NDI, SDVoE, Crestron NVX, or similar technologies)
- Familiarity with digital signage, video walls, and event space AV systems
