Audio-Visual Technical Support Officer

Job Description:

  • Fixed Term to December 2027
  • Full Time (35-hour week)
  • Remuneration Level 5: $96,321 - $108,991 + 17% Superannuation
  • Location: Kensington, NSW (on campus attendance required)

Why The Role Matters:

This position provides high technical support across the School’s teaching and research spaces. This includes the setup, operation and management of audio-visual and lighting equipment for classes and events. The role requires availability Monday to Friday, with a focus on supporting evening teaching. This position will cover evenings based on class timetables.

This position will report into the School Manager and has no direct reports.

Accountabilities:

  • Prepare, setup and provide technical support of complex audio-visual equipment for teaching
  • Support the lending of equipment to students for course work.
  • Assist in ensuring proficiency of students with using equipment
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose diverse technical issues related to AV systems, employing advanced problem-solving skills and technical knowledge to minimize disruption to teaching activities.
  • Maintain and update AV and lighting, including routine checks and minor repairs.
  • Assist with installation and configuration of new equipment and technologies.
  • Liaise with academic and professional staff to understand technical requirements for classes and events.
  • Provide user training and guidance on AV and lighting systems as required.

Skills and Experience:

To be considered you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in audio visual technologies or equivalent competency gained through any other combination of education, training and experience.
  • Ability to prepare, setup, operate, complex audio-visual systems for events.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the audio-visual industry, good problem-solving skills and ability to identify, troubleshoot and fix complex audio-visual faults in a live event environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in setting up, directing and operating live streams.
  • Strong knowledge of audio and/or lighting systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to supervise and guide fellow colleagues.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience dealing directly with clients.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
