About the role:

King’s AV Services is seeking an Audio-Visual Technician to join one of our busy dedicated AV teams. AV Services at King’s support a wide range of AV and IT user facing systems to deliver teaching and lectures, as well as both internal and external events. We offer a generous pay and benefits package, which includes season ticket loans, bike to work scheme, on-site gyms and 30 days annual leave in addition to two wellbeing days, and several closure days leave. We are looking for a self-motivated individual with excellent customer service and technical skills who will deliver a first-class user experience for staff, students, and visitors via in-person support, telephone calls, email, and Microsoft Teams. The role will primarily be based at our Campus. You will provide support to our lecture theatres, classrooms, meeting rooms and other spaces. Your daily duties will include supporting users and maintaining devices including Crestron control systems, PCs, data projectors, PA systems, visualisers, lecture capture, and other AV equipment. Other responsibilities include managing AV bookings, ensuring that the required AV equipment is available and functioning in the rooms or delivered as required for lectures, functions, and events; using remote tools to monitor and assist users; audio and video recording of lectures and events; and Microsoft Teams support for hybrid meetings and Hyflex teaching.

Additional work with audio and video production or live event streaming may also be required. Working patterns can include some light shift work covering evening and weekend events, with the potential to earn overtime.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing white-glove support for teaching sessions, events, and meetings for both internal and external clients
  • Supporting and maintaining a broad range of AV and IT systems and services
  • Managing and supporting livestreaming and recording for events
  • Handling support tickets and bookings via an online portal, ensuring resolution within applicable SLAs
  • Participating in the continual service improvement process
  • Maintaining up-to-date professional and technical knowledge, undertaking training and research as needed
  • Contributing to the knowledge base and documentation in line with the University’s IT policies
  • Acting as an ambassador for the service, providing advice and technical expertise where appropriate
  • Assisting with witness testing to ensure adherence to AV standards
  • Working across two different sites on a rota basis

The role will primarily be based at our Waterloo Campus. You will provide support to our lecture theatres, classrooms.

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract.

This is a full-time post – 100% full time equivalent.

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Good level of knowledge and understanding of a wide range of audio-visual services and technologies such as display systems, live audio, visualizer, control systems, lecture capture, AVoIP and other AV equipment.
  2. Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  3. Must have demonstrable experience in AV or relevant technical industry experience (film/theatre/music/events).
  4. Experience of working effectively as part of a team, particularly with regards to delivering services and problem solving jointly
  5. Ability to work under pressure and meet challenging deadlines
  6. Good standard of written and spoken English
  7. Ability to manage and prioritize own workload effectively

Desirable criteria

  1. AV related technical qualification
  2. Able to install, configure, upgrade and test desktop computers (both Windows and macOS)
  3. Prior experience with Crestron, Dante, Q-SYS and Analog Way
