General Summary
The Odessa College Automation Instructor (Electrical/Instrumentation) in Pecos, Tx is responsible for providing high-quality instruction to students within the Automation degree pathway at Odessa College, including dual credit, associate-level, and select bachelor-level courses. This position focuses on Electrical Instrumentation, Equipment and Systems, and Process Instrumentation, preparing students with the technical knowledge and hands-on skills needed for careers in industrial automation and related fields. The instructor supports student success through effective teaching, academic advising, curriculum development, and participation in departmental outreach, while maintaining compliance with industry standards, safety practices, and environmental, health, and safety regulations.
Specific Position Duties
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge in the teaching field.
- Demonstrates the willingness and ability to teach various courses, times, locations, and delivery methods, as needed and as reasonably requested by the college.
- Utilizes appropriately challenging coursework to help students realize their full potential as learners.
- Provides students with written expectations, such as syllabi, policies, assignment instructions, graded evaluations, and other course materials.
- Administers tests that are appropriate to course content, including a comprehensive final exam that measures overall understanding of course objectives.
- Uses a variety of instructional methods to affirm the worth and dignity of all persons and support the right of all individuals to learn.
- Maintains an appropriate learning and assessment environment in the classroom, whether traditional, web-based, or distance learning, that encourages the free exchange of ideas while upholding academic honesty and objectivity.
- Prepares adequately for class and arrives promptly for class meetings, labs, and all other scheduled instructional activities.
- Delivers course material in a clear and understandable manner.
- Addresses student concerns, including comments, questions, and input, both in class and through posted office hours, timely electronic communication, and other appropriate means.
- Effectively manages routine procedures necessary for the successful day-to-day operation of the department, as delegated by the department chair.
- Submits required reports and schedules to the department chair in a timely manner.
- Maintains effective relationships with professional counterparts throughout the college and the community.
- Provides individual student advisement on degree plans and degree applications to ensure compliance with completion requirements.
- Assists with recruiting, marketing, and outreach efforts for department programs.
- Actively participates in college functions, events, and community service activities.
- Able to access electrical and mechanical equipment and sort or handle high-volume mail, documents, and inventory.
- Uses tools, equipment, and hardware safely and effectively.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform activities requiring acute manual dexterity.
Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree in Automation, Electrical and Instrumentation, or a related field; or a Masters degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline or a closely related field.
