The B.O.S.S. Operations Assistant supports the daily operations of the Be on The Safe Side (B.O.S.S.) late-night rideshare program by assisting with key administrative and operational tasks. This role supports the B.O.S.S. Program leadership and assists with coordinating student driver scheduling, hiring, and training effort. Additionally, this role serves as a point of contact for both student employees and customers. Responsibilities include but not limited to: responding to emails and phone calls, addressing customer concerns, and troubleshooting account or app-related issues. Scheduled hours are 5:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., with at least one weekend shift required per week. Hours may change in accordance with operational needs.
Major Responsibilities
- 45% Serves as first point of contact for individuals and groups providing basic organizational information via phone, in person, and through other communication mediums, routing more complex inquiries to the appropriate entities.
- Communicate with student employees and assist with schedule changes, complaints, or general questions
- Scheduling, hiring, and training student drivers
- Track any schedule variations (including absences, late reporting to work, etc.)
- 25% Sends, receives, copies, and distributes communications to the appropriate entities according to established policies and procedures.
- Answer emails and phone calls from student customers concerning services, feedback, and help troubleshoot account issues
- Catalog any support questions to relay to our third-party service, TransLoc, including organizing screenshots and details of the app issue
- 15% Supports department operations across campus which may include:
- Performing duties of a B.O.S.S driver in accordance with operational need
- Schedules logistics and secures resources for meetings, conferences, travel, and work unit along with the entire Transportation Services Department.
- 10% Serve as back up for designated tasks for B.O.S.S. Leadership
- Report accidents and fill out corresponding paperwork
- Escalate issues in accordance with department processes
- 5% Other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements
Applicants for this job, must be able to do the following:
- Typical office environment requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods in a standard office environment. Periodically involves driving a mid-sized vehicle during the hours of 5:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Could require the need to lift up to 40 pounds.
Working Conditions
This position requires:
- 100% onsite work. Hybrid work is not available.
- Hybrid work options may be available pending manager approval. Work will be performed primarily on the UW-Milwaukee campus, with requests for remote work considered after the initial training period. Specifics regarding work location requirements will be discussed during the interview process.
Equipment Used
- Standard office equipment which may include computers, phones, laptops. May also drive a variety of motor vehicles.
Additional Information:
- This position is not eligible for hybrid work and requires 100% onsite work.
- If the Search and Screen Committee cannot determine if the minimum qualifications are met, they will be determined as not meeting them.

Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to work 5:30 PM - 2:00 AM, including a minimum of one weekend shift weekly
- Must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver license (or other such valid operator's permit recognized by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation) and be able to meet or exceed the minimum requirements for driving on state business as detailed here: https://uwm.edu/risk-management/drivers/.
- Willingness to operate passenger vehicles in a dense urban environment outside of standard business hours in a variety of weather conditions
- Evidence of proficiency with Microsoft 365 in a professional or school setting.
- Experience with professional workplace communication via various methods of communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in training and employee development
- Experience coordinating meetings and scheduling
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Target Salary Range: $16.82/hr - $24.01/hr
