Customs House is an award-winning venue operated by The University of Queensland, located in the heart of Brisbane’s CBD. Renowned for its exceptional service and memorable events, Customs House is seeking an experienced Banquet Supervisor to join our dynamic team.
About the Opportunity
As Banquet Supervisor, you will play a pivotal role in the efficient operation of the banquets department, reporting directly to the Banquet Manager. You will be hands-on in the supervision and execution of functions and events, ensuring outstanding guest experiences and maintaining the venue’s reputation as one of Brisbane’s premier destinations.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and deliver seamless service for functions and events both onsite and externally
- Support daily business operations and collaborate with the Customs House Management team
- Maintain and update procedure manuals, POS and EMS reports
- Set up, maintain and care for equipment, furniture and event materials
- Handle security duties, including locking the premises after shifts
- Liaise with restaurant, kitchen, accounts and event coordinators
- Engage with clients, address concerns, conduct site inspections and provide visitor information
- Ensure responsible service of alcohol and provide exceptional patron care
- Train, supervise and motivate staff, promoting high service standards
- Control wage costs and manage staff hours according to work plans
- Prepare menus highlighting dietary requirements and assist with POS system programming
- Manage stock control and ordering for beverages, food, linen and supplies
- Organise liquor store, cold room, fridges, and kitchen inventory
- Finalise accounts for functions, produce banking and reconciliation reports, and handle cash floats
- Set up and operate basic audio-visual equipment
- Perform additional duties as reasonably requested by the supervisor
About You
- Minimum 12 months’ experience in a similar role
- Recognised hospitality qualifications and/or equivalent industry experience
- Current RSA and First Aid Certificate
- Demonstrated expertise in banquet operations
- Basic knowledge of audio-visual equipment
- Strong supervisory, leadership and communication skills
- Exceptional organisational skills and ability to work under pressure
- Understanding of workplace health and safety issues
- Basic computer skills
- Team player with high standards of personal grooming and hygiene
- Customer-focused with a commitment to excellence
- High level of communication and interpersonal skills
Other Requirements
- Compliance with University policies including Code of Conduct, Queensland OH&S legislation, sustainability practices, and Education Services for Overseas Students Act (National Code 2007)
- Mandatory immunisations as per Queensland Health Public Health Measures
- Unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of the appointment (visa sponsorship not available)
