Basic Needs Navigator
SALARY: $47,337.47 - $49,646.06

Description
Under the general direction of the Director for Basic Needs and Emergency Grants, this position focuses on implementing the Edmonds Student Basic Needs Grants. As part of a one-stop support center the position will support the work of a basic needs support task force with other leaders on campus.
The position serves as the primary contact for individuals seeking help with food, housing, transportation, childcare, utilities and other basic needs and financial crises. Provides a single point of contact for a quick response to students who are in crisis and requesting assistance. The Basic Needs resource Navigator is included in the Triton Hub case management team. Case management includes culturally responsive strength-based assessment, advising, follow-up on the student's situation, financial coaching and occupational information.
This position will provide critical student support, collaboration enhancement and resource expansion.
This is an exempt position that reports to the Director of Student Basic Needs & Emergency Grants.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Process Triton Emergency assistance grant applications, by evaluating economic and social barriers impacting daily stability or school retention.
- Provide a low barrier intake process for students that includes appropriate assessment and presentation of the colleges and community resources available
- Support all students' access to Basic Food assistance and the Basic Food Employment and Training (BFET) program, and support the reduction of student food insecurity
- Guide clients through complex public benefit applications (such as SNAP/Basic Food, childcare subsidies, or Medicaid)
- Partner with internal departments (e.g., financial aid, student services, etc) and local social service providers for supportive services that help meet their basic needs
- Conduct a follow-up 30 and 60 days after award and as needed to ensure students' needs are met and provide additional referrals if needed
- Maintain accurate case notes, track referral outcomes, and protect client confidentiality
- Actively participate as a member of the statewide Benefits Navigator Cohort, including attending trainings and meetings
- Contribute to the development of the statewide and campus specific Hunger-Free and Basic Needs Strategic Plan development and implementation
- Participate in ongoing evaluation and revision efforts to ensure appropriate and effective supports for prioritizing student basic needs
- In collaboration with WSAC and the SBCTC support the implementation of a student survey that assess food and housing security and access to basic economic supports
- Assist the Director in data collection and analysis for quarterly reports
- Facilitate local or regional discussions and generate recommendations amongst community stakeholders on the basic needs of their respective colleges' students
- Assist efforts to strengthen transition supports, which may include assistance with FAFSA/WASFA,Work Force Funding Programs, WA College Grant, etc.
- Participate in the Guided Pathways initiative at the college
- Work with other Benefit Navigators and the SBCTC to enhance community partnerships to support students and increase options for individuals to meet their basic needs
- Conduct outreach and recruitment that targets low-income and food-insecure students
- Ensure a full menu of college and community resources is available and communicated
- Support the development of new community partnerships to increase resources for students
- Support efforts to integrate student support programs at the college and enhance leveraging of college resources to holistically support students
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate's degree in social work, human services, public health, or a related field (or equivalent lived/work experience two years of progressively responsible experience in office/clerical, program coordination, case management, or general administrative work.
- Excellent customer service, communication and teamwork skills
- Superior technical skills including proficiency with Google Suite and database programs
- Ability to work effectively with populations representing low-income, diverse backgrounds, life experiences and abilities.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with individuals who speak languages other than English
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, public health, or a related field (or equivalent lived/work experience two years of progressively responsible experience in office/clerical, program coordination, case management, or general administrative work
- Demonstrated knowledge of Trauma Informed Care:
- Demonstrated experience facilitating meetings and leading presentations
- Availability for in-state travel for trainings and meetings
- Demonstrated flexibility and ability to accommodate multiple stakeholders with various interests and needs
- Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Demonstrated experience in interpreting, reviewing and applying program specific policies, procedures and regulations
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities are often strongly preferred
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is typically performed in an office setting and onsite/in-person. Recurring early/late hours (weekend/early morning/evening meetings). The ability to make sound judgments is essential. The ability to sit at a desk/computer station, bend, stoop, walk, and generally move around the office to consult with others, work within a busy environment and remain focused on tasks. Inventory management requires some lifting and moving of objects up to 30lbs. Excellent communication skills are essential. This includes the ability to speak clearly and fully comprehend written and spoken English and will include communication with people for whom English is not their first language. This also includes the ability to produce clearly written documents. Those who are multilingual are strongly encouraged to apply.
COMPENSATION:
Salary is $47,337.47 - $49,646.06 and is based on the Edmonds College administrative/exempt salary schedule, plus a full state benefits package, which includes tuition waivers for college classes, medical, dental, retirement options and more. Vacation and leave package includes 12 sick days per year, 11 scheduled holidays, 1 personal holiday, and 24 vacation leave days per year.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., including some evenings and weekends.
FLSA Status:
The position is an exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act requirements.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
