BCAS - Instructor of English & UA Early College
Detailed Position Information
The Barefield College of Arts and Sciences and UA Early College are hiring full-time instructors in English (nine-month position, with the possibility of summer appointments, as needed) to teach a combination of online Early College classes and in-person English classes. The appointment is non-tenure-earning and is a one-year term with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory performance review, staffing needs, and funding.
The appointment is expected to teach at least two sections of UA Early College (high school students taking college courses online for credit), with the remaining courses taught in person in the Department of English. The instructor will be expected to teach college-approved online course content and facilitate each course in accordance with best practices for online instruction. Online English courses have already been developed using discipline-specific departmental guidelines and follow a standard syllabus and course schedule. Instructors facilitate online discussions, provide feedback on all written work, and grade according to the College's grading standards. The remaining teaching load will be in-person with the English department.
The position is considered 80% teaching and 20% service, with the service portion of the load assigned by English. The selected instructor will actively facilitate course content; guide student discussion; provide frequent, timely, and meaningful feedback to online students; maintain regular online office hours; submit course rosters and grades by institutionally required communication methods and deadlines; maintain required records and reports for each course assigned; and have regular contact with other online Early College/English instructors and administrators as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
MA in English or MFA in English; experience in teaching composition.
