Position Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Behavior Specialist III for the Graduate School of Applied Professional Psychology – Center for Adult Autism Services.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Implements a variety of behavior analytic strategies in support of successful outcomes for adults with autism across the areas of skill acquisition and/or behavior reduction goals throughout center-based and community-based environments.
  • Collects, interprets, and analyzes behavioral data.
  • Contributes to the development of behavior analytic instructional programming under the supervision of a Behavior Analyst.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Applied Behavior Analysis, Special Education, or related field.
  • At least six (6) months of prior experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in an ABA setting.

  • Web-based data collection and analysis platform.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Supports adults with ASD during public transportation.
  • Must be able to complete training in crisis management.
  • Expected to provide direct care to adult patients in severe behavioral crisis and work with a team in providing treatment to patients in behavioral crisis.
  • May work with patients with multiple forms of severe challenging behavior including, but not limited to, intense aggression, self-injury, elopement, expulsion (spitting out food or liquids during treatment), or property destruction.
  • Must be able to move, list, and carry patients and objects.
  • Moving, lifting, or transferring of patients may involve independently lifting up to fifty (50) pounds, as well as assisting with weights of more than one hundred (100) pounds.
  • Use of abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
  • Frequent movement, use of limbs, and good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Extended periods of standing or sitting.
