The Student Health & Wellness Center (SHW) seeks a skilled behavioral health therapist who can provide excellent clinical care to OHSU students and postdoctoral fellows across the spectrum of developmental and mental health issues. As with all SHW providers, this position will:

  • provide generalist mental health counseling services to OHSU students and postdocs;

We work to provide exceptional and confidential primary and behavioral health care, integrative medicine, wellness programming, suicide prevention and food resource assistance, located on the primary OHSU campus on Marquam Hill in Portland, Oregon.

At SHW, we promote a work culture that is passionate about serving our patients, supports work/life balance for each employee, provides robust professional development opportunities, and encourages collaboration between roles. We believe in providing high-quality care for our patients in an environment that also supports the well-being of each team member and of the health of our team as a whole.

Additionally, we follow OHSU’s commitment to competitive pay and a comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, retirement, life and disability insurance, paid-time-off, holiday pay, commuting benefits, employee wellness program, and more).

  • Independently and efficiently manage a large and complex caseload of clients, including timely chart completion.
  • Design and implement at least one weekly therapy or support group for students.
  • Serve as part of a team consisting of multidisciplinary mental health professionals (e.g., psychologists, psychiatrists, LPC’s, LCSW’s, LMFT’s), primary care team members (e.g., physicians, nurse practitioners, massage therapists, and medical assistants), wellness professionals, and vital support staff.
  • Foster strong relationships with student leaders, Center for Learner Diversity and Inclusion, academic leaders in all schools within OHSU, and OHSU student support services to facilitate outreach presentations, trainings, and overall education about psychology and mental health.
  • Design and deliver outreach programming on mental health topics of interest to students
  • Participate in behavioral health team meetings where we support one another, consult about challenging cases, strategize how to improve access while preventing provider burnout, determine criteria for appropriate referrals, and partner with our primary care team to provide continuity of care for shared clients.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) or Masters degree (Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage Family Therapist)
  • Training and experience in treating diverse patients, including traditionally underserved populations and comprising of: initial assessment , treatment planning , individual and group therapy , crisis intervention
  • Experience or interest in providing relationship/couples’ therapy
  • Strong skills in written and oral communication and ability to communicate across cultures

  • Willingness to design and deliver talks to an academic audience
  • Training in or exposure to one or more empirically validated treatments, such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and/or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. A foundation in modern psychodynamic theory is welcomed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a Student Health or Student Counseling setting
  • Experience in collaborating and coordinating care with inter-professional teams
  • Experience and/or ability to lead groups for students that identify with diverse groups
