Job Summary
The Department of Neurology has a need for an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or Clinical Nurse Specialist) with strong values and unique skills for our Behavioral Neurology Section.
This Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will work in the Behavioral Neurology Section within the Department of Neurology. This is an outpatient position providing direct care to patients with cognitive, memory, and neurobehavioral disorders, including conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia, and related neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders. Clinical work is primarily comprised of return visits for patients with dementia, including support of their family caregivers. The APP engages closely with colleagues across the Department of Neurology, University of Colorado Hospital, and other satellite locations.
The Department of Neurology has an ongoing need for APPs with strong values and unique skills. Successful candidates will have a proven record of accomplishment in supporting the needs of patients, developing differential diagnoses, and prescribing treatments in collaboration with leading specialty providers. Key Responsibilities
- Work in collaboration with the Behavioral Neurology section to screen, evaluate, diagnose, manage medications, and provide disease counseling to patients with neurodegenerative diseases.
- Serves as first contact for clinician-level patient communications
- Engages in collaborative team-based care to make informed decisions for patient care
- Support and engage in continual learning and development among nursing staff, pharmacy staff, medical students, and neurology residents
- Periodic educational presentation of lectures to patients and others
- Participate in and lead periodic research case conferences
- Attend Section meetings and educational events
- Other duties may be assigned as need arises
Work Location
Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Instructor
- Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or Clinical Nurse Specialist Degree
- License to practice in Colorado or ability to obtain a license to practice in Colorado
- Experience and desire to work with patients with chronic, sometimes severe illness
- Experience completing documentation and performing tasks routinely assigned in medical settings using complex electronic record systems
- One (1) year working with neurological patients and/or experience with outpatient care
Senior Instructor
- Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or Clinical Nurse Specialist Degree
- License to practice in Colorado or ability to obtain a license to practice in Colorado
- Experience and desire to work with patients with chronic, sometimes severe illness
- Experience completing documentation and performing tasks routinely assigned in medical settings using complex electronic record systems
- Two (2) years working with neurological patients
Preferred Qualifications
- Three or more years of experience with neurological patients, preferably patients with cognitive or behavioral dysfunction and dementia
- Prior experience in primary care medicine is desirable, especially geriatric populations, as well as experience in management of mood disorders, including depression and anxiety
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system

- Experience with web-based tracking systems and Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access)

Anticipated Pay Range
HIRING RANGE:
- Instructor: $105,000-$115,000
- Sr. Instructor: $115,000-$120,000
