Behavioral scientist

Within the Department of General Practice, sector general practitioner training, there is a vacancy as of February 1, 2026 (start of training group as of March 1, 2026) for a: Lecturer-2: Behavioural Scientist (GW), preferably psychologist BIG registered, year 3, in Maastricht, 0.3 FTE.
- Our goal: To supervise and educate general practitioner trainees (Aios-H) and GP trainers, as well as to develop the curriculum for the three-year GP residency program. This vacant position supervises trainees in their third year of training, who will be interning for a year in a general practice. The trainee education return day for this position is on Tuesdays and takes place in Maastricht. The supervisor's second intended workday is preferably on Thursdays.
- Your colleagues: The General Practitioner Program is part of the Department of General Practice at Maastricht University. The General Practitioner Program is a three-year program following medical school graduation and prepares residents for the multifaceted profession of general practitioner. The first and third years consist of regular GP internships, while the second year consists of external internships completed in hospitals, nursing homes, or mental healthcare institutions. The instructor works in a group of residents with a GP supervisor, supervising residents and GP trainers. The instructor is supervised by an experienced colleague with whom all aspects of the content, program, and structure of the relevant training component of the residents' curriculum are regularly discussed.
You will deliver established and specific educational programs, be responsible for implementing assessments and providing progress advice, and supervise residents and the resident-GP trainer pair. As a behavioral science instructor, you will work alongside a GP instructor.
In addition, you develop, organize and improve education and, depending on the scope of your appointment, participate in working groups and committees.
What you do
1) Educational implementation
Providing education to residents and GP trainers.
The teacher:
- Provides, possibly in collaboration with the GP supervisor or external instructors, the (partly self-developed) training for trainees based on the curriculum developed based on the National Training Plan.
- Integrates new subject-matter and educational evidence into education.
- Prepares and conducts educational meetings with residents.
- Creates a powerful learning environment and applies various teaching methods.
- Coaches and assesses trainees and GP trainers on their learning process and competence development at individual, couple, and group level (supervision and intervision).
- Supervises and assesses residents and GP trainers in carrying out practical assignments.
2) Educational evaluation
Evaluating education at the level of process and outcomes.
The teacher:
- Examines the e-portfolio of the residents.
- Evaluates the progress of residents and GP trainers, identifies any stagnation in their development, and coordinates with the coordinator of guidance and assessment regarding residents.
- Advises the coordinator of guidance and assessment and the Head of the GP training program on the decision regarding the progress of residents in accordance with the local assessment and evaluation procedure.
- Advises the GP trainer coordinator regarding his or her decision regarding the deployment and development of the GP trainer.
- Periodically visits the training practices to supervise residents and GP trainers.
- Participates in internal working groups and discussions on educational evaluations.
- Analyses the implementation of educational components with residents, trainers, and other lecturers and contributes to the reporting thereof. Coordinates evaluation data with the quality coordinator.
- Provides information on request for inspections, audits, etc.
3) Educational Development
: Developing educational programs and materials for residents and GP trainers.
Formulating various types of assignments, both subject-specific and didactic.
The teacher:
- Identifies necessary additions and improvements to the curriculum in general and educational programs in particular, in collaboration with the other staff of the relevant year and, if necessary, the quality coordinator.
- Develops new programs.
- Explicitly specifies the functional requirements laid down in the Competency Profile of the General Practitioner and the themes and characteristic professional activities (CBA's) of the national training plan for the assigned parts of the resident curriculum.
- Align these requirements with other parts of the resident curriculum and the curriculum for general practitioner trainers.
- Draws up and implements an action plan for the development of educational programs including educational materials
- Publishes educational materials for the education bank on the electronic learning environment (Canvas).
4) Organisation
The teacher is responsible for his competence development and contributes to the proper functioning of the organisation.
The teacher:
- Participates in professional development and peer review for teachers (teacher professional development) based on the teacher's competency profile and the UFO profile.
- Participates in working groups, committees, project teams and regular consultations (MOM consultations, staff consultations, staff days, meetings with GP trainers) within the department and in working groups at national level.

We are looking for a Behavioral Scientist, preferably a BIG-registered psychologist, with at least 3 years of experience as a practicing therapist and preferably working 1.5 days a week in a treatment setting.
Experience teaching professionals is recommended. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to collaborate, lead, and organize.

- Excellent employment conditions. The position is classified in scale 12 according to the UFO Teacher 2 profile, with a corresponding salary scale based on experience ranging from €5,705.00 to €7,297.00 gross per month (based on a full-time, 38-hour per week contract). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
- A 13-month employment contract with a scope of 0.3-0.4 FTE. If the candidate proves suitable, the contract will be converted into a permanent contract.

You'll receive a monthly home-working and internet allowance for this.
