Behaviour of shear walls consisting of steel frame and FRP infill plate.
Thin infill plate shear walls are getting more popular especially for high rise buildings. Their low weight and high ultimate capacity are extremely beneficial for many modern buildings.
Existing research in this area is focusing mainly on systems with steel infill plates or hybrid ones, consisting with thin steel plate laminated with FRP layers. The proposed research is aiming to investigate the application of infill plates consisting of FRP only (GFRP and/or CFRP).
The role of number of layers and the orientation of the fibres will be investigated.
The expectation is that the predominant part of the project will be lab based using experimental testing equipment following ATC 24 protocol. Some theoretical modelling with verification using the experimental results and conceptual parametric study will be expected. General conclusions and considerations for practical applications will be stated as well.
