Job Summary: The Benefits Specialist position is responsible for the daily coordination and administration of the NU Flex benefits program, retirement plans, and Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) compliance for approximately 1,400 faculty/staff and 250 retirees. This role serves as a key point of contact for faculty, staff, and retirees and ensures a prominent level of customer service, accuracy, and compliance. The position also contributes to campus-wide Human Resources initiatives and performs related administrative functions as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Required Education: Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education, work experience, and academic course work in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
Required Experience: Minimum of three (3) years related job experience with a preference for experience in welfare benefits, defined contribution plans, and FMLA administration.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
Preferred Experience: Experience in higher education is desirable.
Preferred License/Certification: One or more of the following certifications: Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS), Certified Benefits Specialist (CBP), PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP.
Preferred Additional Qualifications: Experience using SAP system.
