Overview
Practice-based PhD project that understands painting as an intuitive embodied act that goes beyond representation, that is, the concrete realisation of something seen or thought. The Beyond Representation - Painting as Embodied Practice programme is offered by the University of Dundee.
Research Opportunity
Through a perceptive openness and engagement with the world, a performative response is stirred through the material properties of paint, such that the painting transcends its object status and becomes a vessel for a poetics of meaning. Painting is both a verb and a noun, and its significance depends on the skill of the artist to understand and translate the experience of Being, in the sense that Heidegger identifies as having been lost in everyday existence.
