Bioinformatics Analyst I
The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Institute for Genome Sciences (IGS) is recruiting for a Bioinformatics Analyst I for our Human Disease Ontology Knowledgebase (DO-KB) team. We are looking for an experienced and motivated scientific curator to lead analysis of disease classifications and nosology.
The Bioinformatics Analyst I will contribute to ongoing Human Disease Ontology research projects. The Bioinformatics Analyst will participate in the generation, quality control, and analysis of disease-related data types, working closely with faculty, clinicians, bioinformatics analysts, and engineers at the Institute for Genome Sciences (IGS). The Bioinformatics Analyst will work with the DO-KB team and will be primarily responsible for curation of new disease knowledge, interacting within the UMSOM system and externally with clinical and biomedical researchers.
Primary Duties
- Contribute to genomic research projects and scientific analysis of the disease related data generated by those projects using a variety of databases and software applications.
- Following established procedures or specific scientific protocols, add value to data generated by genomic projects through annotation, curation, and quality assurance.
- Coordinate the investigation and ingestion of disease classification, nosology, and mechanism information.
- Contribute to the development of DO-KB ontologies.
- Perform data mining and synthesis activities using various internal resources, public databases, and publications.
- Participate in community outreach and training.
