Biological Facilities Manager
Kenyon College invites applications for a Biological Facilities Manager. This is a full-time, 12-month position reporting to the Chair of the Biology Department, with an anticipated start in early August 2026. The Biological Facilities Manager will provide support for the biology lab courses, including procuring supplies, preparing reagents, maintaining living biological materials, and training students in basic lab safety; coordinate the maintenance of biological research and instructional equipment, facilities, and living collections, including microscopes, pipettes, growth chambers, and a greenhouse; and manage a team of part-time student workers to aid in these tasks.
Qualifications:
- Required: A bachelor's degree in biology or related discipline; at least two years of experience in biological laboratories; experience with managing shared electronic documents (e.g., Google Drive).
- Preferred: A master’s degree in biology; over two years’ experience in academic biological laboratories; experience training and managing teams of students.
The successful candidate will: Work independently while coordinating with a team; work well with a variety of people, including faculty, staff, and students; plan for instructional laboratory needs over the time scales of days, weeks, and semesters; recognize problems and attempt solutions; propose new methods to accomplish goals; use technical language to communicate precise specifications for procurement, preparation, and handling of hazardous materials; research and critically evaluate information to support decision making; effectively manage teams of students; keep well organized records; lift and carry up to 50 lbs. The candidate must be authorized to work full-time in the United States and be able to begin work no later than July 20th.
