Works under the direct supervision of the Stone Lab Manager to assist in preparation of seasonal programming at Stone Laboratory; assists in operation of Stone Laboratory Fieldtrip program, Science days at the South Bass Island Lighthouse and other outreach events; assists in preparation and maintenance of facilities for utilization by visitors, faculty, researchers and students; provides assistance to administrative and laboratory staff as needed; conducts inventory of supplies and equipment; maintains and repairs scientific equipment and occasionally assists with field research; leads scientific classroom activities for grades 5-12 school groups; leads tours, science cruises and activities for visiting groups; provides information about fieldtrip program; assists in construction and storage of educational displays; conducts orientation sessions for visiting groups; assists in seasonal set-up and close-down procedures for the laboratory; assists in all day-to-day operations including basic maintenance and dining and residence tasks as needed; performs special assignments as needed; position is a temporary appointment that will last spring to fall (flexible beginning and end dates based on availability); position located at Put-in-Bay, Ohio.
Minimum Education Required
High School diploma
Minimum Education Desired
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in life science education, fisheries & wildlife, ecology, biology or related field.
Required Qualifications
0 years of relevant experience; demonstrated ability in the conduct of routine field work; ability to work with a diverse population and as a team; valid drivers license; successful completion of a background check. Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and some holidays.
Desired Qualifications
Ability to lift 30 lbs. desired.
Applicants hired will be subject to a pre consortium drug screening upon hire and additional drug screenings if drawn through a random process throughout the season.
