Job Summary/Basic Function: The Department of Biology at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#103360) in physiology at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2026. As a Carnegie R2 (Doctoral Universities - High Research Activity) institution, we seek applicants who are excellent teachers, will build a vigorous, externally funded research program, and will actively engage undergraduate and graduate students in research. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct independent research and mentor students (undergraduate, MS, and PhD) at a level that will gain national and international recognition. Teaching at graduate and undergraduate levels will be expected. The successful candidate will receive a competitive start-up package and be expected to develop an externally funded research program at a level appropriate to mentor master's and doctoral graduate students. The Department of Biology hosts undergraduate biology and forensic science majors, a Master's program in Biology, and an Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program in Molecular Biosciences. Required Education: A terminal degree in biology, physiology, or a closely related field is required by the appointment date.
Other Desirables: Applicants with post-doctoral research experience, a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals, and grant or fellowship funding that reflects high productivity commensurate with the applicant's current career stage will receive special consideration. In addition, those with the expertise and ability to teach and mentor in biomedical sciences will receive special consideration.
