Biostatistician
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:
The Department of Biostatistics (BIOS) is internationally recognized as a leader in Biostatistics research and training. It is one of eight departments in the Gillings School of Global Public Health whose mission is to improve public health, promote individual well-being and eliminate health inequities across North Carolina and around the world. This mission is accomplished through an outstanding program of collaborative teaching, research and service. The Department of Biostatistics is one of the largest, most complex departments at UNC, receiving over $45 million in research funding in FY24. Currently BIOS includes approximately 288 students (84 undergraduate, 204 graduate), approximately 100 permanent staff members, and 40 faculty members (30 with primary appointments in BIOS), as well as an additional 20 adjunct faculty members. The Department of Biostatistics is housed in two different locations: administrative and faculty offices, including a suite of offices for graduate students, in McGavran-Greenberg Hall and the Collaborative Studies Coordinating Center at Carolina Square.
Position Summary:
The primary purpose of this Biostatistician position is to serve as an entry level practicing biostatistician on cohort observational studies and/or clinical trials at the Collaborative Studies Coordinating Center. Duties include: (1) Collaborate on the development of specifications for analyses and tabulations, (2) Develop and review analysis and reporting specifications and provide feedback on statistical program output, (3) Maintain study documentation and support study centers with protocol and data quality questions, (4) Use dashboards and reporting tools to monitor study progress and participant accrual.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Management Preferences:
Biostatistical analysis experience.
