Biostatistician III
Job Summary
The Research Analyst will join Dr. Kumar's research team in the Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training in the College of Health. Dr. Kumar's research focuses on health service research, utilizing Medicare claims data, epidemiological data, qualitative data analysis, and electronic health record (EHR) data. This Research Analyst will provide a wide range of advanced statistical expertise and will work on various projects supporting Dr. Kumar's initiatives. This role involves conducting statistical analysis, predictive modeling, data mining, and data management and managing IRB and DUA. The position requires attention to detail, as well as the ability to think critically, abstractly, and theoretically. To be successful in this role, you must manage and analyze complex databases effectively and design ways to collect data effectively.
Responsibilities
- Assists in providing consultation to study investigators in the areas of protocol development, study design, analysis plan, sample size / power calculations, and interpretation of study data.
- Assists in the preparation and submission of grants, manuscripts, and presentations.
- Provides statistical analysis programming, including completion of descriptive and inferential analyses and the interpretation of results.
- Reviews data for discrepancies, interact with data managers, and create analysis datasets.
- Conforms to statistical programming and analysis standards.
- In consultation with supervising or faculty statistician, seeks out opportunities to become involved in statistical leadership through teaching, supervision, mentoring, or developing own methodological research.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the Biostatistician I and II positions
Work Environment and Level of Frequency typically required Nearly Continuously: Office environment. Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required Nearly Continuously: Sitting, hearing, listening, talking. Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking. Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.
Minimum Qualifications
This position requires an MS degree in statistics, biostatistics, a related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and at least five years of relevant experience. Candidates must be familiar with a wide range of basic and advanced statistical techniques and have expert knowledge of at least one statistical programming language such as SAS or R. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); An ability to work on several projects simultaneously and manage deadlines, and; Excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain statistical techniques and present data results, are also required.
Preferences
- Master's degree in Biostatistics, Data Science, or Statistics, Epidemiology, health economics, Informatics Science
- Advanced SAS programming knowledge, skills and experience
- Experience with data management of large survey, state, health system, and Medicare claims data
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Data collection, maintenance, and integration expertise.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ARCGIS and making maps
- Ability to extract and process data using SQL.
- Experiences with identifiable data security
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
