BMIC Research Assistant
Job Summary
Primary responsibilities will be to help with machine learning projects with temporal characteristics and uncertainty in predictions using big clinical data, and performing machine learning based analysis for different translational research projects, and in particular for developing conformal prediction models.
Responsibilities
- Help prepare data sets for analysis and use in prediction models.
- Develop and evaluate machine learning models.
- Help process data with Python, Java, and other programming languages.
- Help document data set processing for research reproducibility.
- Assist in evaluating and documenting complex issues related to data transformation and translation.
- Ask questions where needed to accurately produce data sets with a logical understanding of the source data to the expected target outcomes.
- Collaborate with the team in writing manuscripts.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Nearly Continuously: Office environment. Nearly continuously: Sitting, hearing, listening, talking. Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking. Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a Social or Behavioral Science, Liberal Arts, or a field related to the area of research, or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education); one year of experience in research and analytical techniques; demonstrated statistical and quantitative analysis experience; and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills required. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Preferences
- One year of research experience or its equivalent, demonstrated organizational and communication skills, and a commitment to providing excellent customer service are required.
- Demonstrated proficiency with data manipulation and skills with a programming language and associated libraries.
- Previous experience working in a research environment to support problem-solving, data analysis, and data transformation.
- Exposure to statistical analysis, data engineering, and data visualization using tools such as SQL, Python, R, Tableau, Excel, and Power BI is expected.
- Experience with machine learning and data mining techniques.
- Experience with TriNetX data sets or similar.
- Currently enrolled in the Biomedical Informatics MS program or related field.
