JOB SUMMARY:

The Retail Technology Assistant supports the daily operations of the MCC Bookstore's technology department, focusing on sales, product expertise, and exceptional customer service. This role assists students, faculty, and staff in selecting and purchasing Apple, Dell, HP, and Lenovo products, while providing accurate information and guidance on technology solutions. The position promotes a "Customer Service Excellence" culture and ensures a positive and seamless shopping experience.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Product Expertise & Support:

• Serve as the on-site resource for Apple products, providing detailed product information and basic troubleshooting assistance.
• Supervise and train 2-3 student employees on product knowledge, sales techniques, and bookstore policies.
• Respond to customer inquiries promptly and professionally via phone, email, and in person

Customer Service & Sales:

• Welcome and engage customers in a friendly and professional manner.
• Guide customers in selecting and purchasing technology products, offering expertise on Apple, Dell, HP, and Lenovo offerings.
• Accurately process purchases, returns, and exchanges through the bookstore's POS system
• Manage online orders through the bookstore's e-commerce platform

Inventory & Merchandising:

• Monitor, order, receive, and manage technology inventory.
• Maintain organized and visually appealing product displays, particularly for Apple merchandise.
• Track and report sales performance to Apple.

Promotional Activities:

• Assist in planning and executing promotional events, including sales and product showcases.
• Create and maintain product displays and signage to maximize visibility and engagement.

Maintenance and Safety:

• Ensure a clean, organized, and safe environment for customers and staff.
• Adhere to all health, safety, and accessibility regulations.

Other Duties:

• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Bookstore Manager or Merchandise Department Supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Retail or customer service experience in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-first approach.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, or supervise others, particularly student employees
• Experience with handling cash, credit, and financial aid transactions accurately.
• Ability to lift/move merchandise up to 30 lbs and stand for extended periods.
• Basic computer literacy and familiarity with retail systems.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in inventory management
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate's degree or college coursework in Business, Technology, or a related field.
• Experience in a college bookstore or academic retail environment.
• In-depth knowledge of laptops, tablets, software, and accessories.
• Prior experience supervising or training staff, particularly student employees.
• Familiarity with inventory management practices and systems.
